An OLED iPad Pro is perhaps the most anticipated Apple product right now, certainly for digital artists and creators. Many brands have already introduced tablets with OLED displays, including big rival Samsung, making Apple late to the game. But it finally looks like the iPad Pro OLED models will likely arrive in May 2024.
There were no new iPads in 2023, but after many rumors, the invitation to Apple’s next event on May 7 seems to confirm that the new iPads for 2024 will be a big focus. Below, I’ll summarize everything we know (or think we know) about the 2024 iPad Pros (and other iPads) that we expect Apple to announce at the streamed event, including their features and possible prices.
Be sure to bookmark this page and come back to it, because we’ll update it with official details and links to the best iPad OLED deals as soon as Apple has revealed everything. For now, keep in mind that the information we have is based on leaks and rumors. To see what Apple’s current lineup of tablets looks like, check out our guide to iPad generations.
iPad Pro 2024 OLED: features
We can’t guarantee that this not-so-cryptic invitation means there will be OLED iPad Pros on the agenda at Apple’s May event, but we’re pretty confident they’ll take it that we’ve been hearing rumors. on them for months. Some of those rumors come from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has historically been pretty accurate in his predictions, which are often based on leaks from contacts at Apple or suppliers.
Gurman has said that Apple will launch a redesign of the iPad Pro that will be the biggest makeover the tablet has ever seen. The most persistent rumor is that this will include the addition of OLED screens. OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display technology provides better contrast, more vibrant colors, and deeper blacks, and has been highly requested by iPad users – all iPhones have had OLED displays since the iPhone 12 in 2020.
The change would likely make the iPad Pros even better for watching movies and doing creative work, especially in poor lighting conditions. The addition of an OLED display will be particularly welcome for the 11-inch iPad Pro, as it currently has a dimmer display than the larger 12.9 model with its Liquid Retina XDR display.
The new iPad Pros are also rumored to be powered by Apple’s latest chip, the M3, which can already be found in the latest MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. This would presumably give them a boost to their already impressive performance.
iPad Pro 2024 OLED: design
Although the current 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pros were released in October 2022, the overall design of the tablets has not changed since 2018. However, rumors suggest that we will get a more significant makeover this time around. Although the sizes will generally remain the same, representing a seventh-generation iPad Pro 12.9 and a fifth-generation iPad Pro 11 respectively, it has been suggested that the new devices will be 1mm thinner.
Another rumor is that Apple is moving the front camera to the long side of the tablet, following a similar change made with the 2022 10th-generation iPad. This would make sense considering that many people now use iPad Pros in landscape orientation with a keyboard.
iPad Pro 2024 OLED: price
So how much will the new iPad Pro OLED cost? Apple doesn’t tend to alter its prices much and new releases are usually the same price as the previous generation. The 2022 model of the iPad Pro 12.9 starts at $1,099/£1,249 for the 128GB Wi-Fi model. Pricing for the 11-inch model starts at $899/£899 for the 128GB configuration, but goes up to $2,099/£2,149 for a maximum 2TB option. Adding cellular connectivity typically adds $200/£200 to the price of each setup.
However, considering that the current iPad Pros were released 18 months ago and that the 2024 iPad Pro is expected to have a significant redesign and OLED displays, costing more, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Apple increased the starting price by about 100 dollars. in each configuration. There’s also a chance it will bump up the specs of the initial model, removing the 128GB SSD option, as that’s not a lot of storage space these days.
OLED iPad Pro 2024: release dates
The next Apple Event will be broadcast on May 7 at 12 noon UK / 7am PT / 10am ET. The tech giant hasn’t said what the event will be about, but recent rumors and graphics in Apple’s own invitation greatly support our belief that it will announce the new iPads that day. Based on previous experience, we can expect pre-orders to open very soon after the event, with the new devices likely to start shipping a week later. That would mean the iPad Pro 2024 will likely hit the streets in time for the third week of May.
Other new iPads for 2024 (and a new Apple Pencil?)

We hope Apple announces more than just new OLED iPad Pros at the May event. Another highly anticipated announcement is a new iPad Air, or possibly even two new iPad Airs. It is rumored that in addition to a new version of the traditional 11-inch model, there will be a new 12.9-inch device. This would mean that the Air comes in the same two size options as the Pro. It would also echo the decision to introduce a 15-inch MacBook Air last year.
The iPad Airs are believed to have M2 processors. It seems like most observers aren’t expecting news about an update to the base 10th-gen iPad or the long-abandoned iPad mini at this event, but there are rumors that we’ll be getting new accessories. The most credible of these is the expectation of a new Apple Pencil, as even Apple CEO Tim Cook’s own tweet announcing the May event offers a rather unsubtle hint.
An update is needed on this front and we’ve heard rumors about a new Apple Pencil that would have interchangeable magnetic tips for different tasks and a new squeeze gesture. There’s also a rumor that Apple will introduce a new, more laptop-like Magic Keyboard, which could help blur the line between MacBook and iPad even further.
