Earlier this month I explained that I had decided to remove the case from my iPhone 15 Pro Max and be left without protection.
While I’ve had a few minor drops since then, the phone remains in perfect condition and feels great. While I didn’t go into it during that article, the case I was using on the device was an Apple FineWoven case that came with our iPhone 15 series review units (the 15 Pro Max is my phone that I bought myself).
With a tweet today from “X” leaker Koustami Saying that Apple stopped production of FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch Bands due to poor durability, I thought now would be a good time to talk about my experience with the case.
Typically, when I buy a case, I demand more protection than the FineWoven case offers.
Some case manufacturers like to beef up protection on the corners and back, and I felt like there was none of this in Apple’s case.
Still, there were a few drops and I can’t complain that the phone was damaged in any way.

The main problem with the case was how worn it looked after a short period. He began to look and feel dirty. For the $59 Apple charges for the case, you can find half the price online that protects your iPhone better and looks better.
Many others online have complained about FineWoven cases citing the same issues. So hearing today from a leaker that Apple has stopped making FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands doesn’t seem surprising.
The feel of the case and its appearance can be simply summed up in four words: “Below Apple’s usual standards.”
Leaker says Apple has stopped production of its FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands
Leaker Koustami’s tweet suggests that Apple will test another leather-free material for next year. Meanwhile, my experiment with the naked iPhone 15 Pro Max continues and I must say that the phone still feels great in hand.
I’ve owned many smartphones over the years, mostly Android devices mixed with a few iPhones. None of those models seemed as solid as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But yes, I am taking a risk by not putting a case on the phone.
If there comes a time when I decide to use a case on my iPhone 15 Pro Max again, you can be sure it won’t be a FineWoven case.
