Phones have been around for so long that everyone has their way of handling, holding, and storing them.
Many people believe in holding them with one hand and touching them with the index finger of the other. Others are one-handed phone users.

Then there is the storage part. Many keep their phones in their back pocket, something I find a little awkward and unsafe.
Me? I am a pocket person. And all my approach seems to require is, well, having a big enough pocket and a phone that’s not too big.
However, what I had missed is that there is a completely different (and seemingly modern) way to handle your iPhone regularly.
It’s the phone case.
I had heard of that concept, but only in the context of kids being told to put their phones in magnetic bags at school.
Imagine my surprise, then, to encounter images of men with phone cases tied around their bodies, as if it were suddenly a cordial fashion statement.
I found this in the men’s section of the COS website. If you’re not familiar with this brand, it’s owned by the folks at H&M and is one of the company’s slightly more expensive brands.

There was more than one bag. First, consider the woven phone case. It is “woven from recycled fibers with a two-tone speckled effect.”
It hangs from your hip like a small school bag, allowing you to reach for your phone when you need it, without bulking up your pocket. If you’re not bag-minded, you can shorten the strap to “sling it over your shoulder.” If you have $49 left over, it can be yours.
But what if you don’t appreciate the woven look? Well, here is the nylon phone case. For the same $49, you can have a bag “made from recycled nylon.” It has “two zippered compartments that are roomy enough for your keys, wallet, and phone. Attach to the matching lanyard using the pair of metal D-rings at the top.”
Maybe I haven’t gone out enough lately. Perhaps this is a trend that spread around the world a long time ago.
However, I’m concerned that $49 is the perfect investment.
Also: I tried the Taylor Swift-inspired trend on iPhone cases and it wasn’t as bad as I feared
Specifically, one could spend $10 on a decent glass of Chenin Blanc and dedicate the rest to COS’s leather AirPods case.
Perhaps the word “case” is a misnomer here. This is a little green bag that houses your fiddly little AirPods.
And what a practical thing this is.
I tend to prefer over-ear headphones, but I’ve seen my wife and others tinker with their internal wonders, misplace them, get upset, or even get frustrated over the best way to carry and store them.
What this little leather pouch does, at least potentially, is serve as the equivalent of those little pockets that men used to store their monocles.
It is clean and the green color is quite attractive.
While phone cases may seem like a frivolous expense, the AirPods case seems to solve a practical problem elegantly.
I bet Steve Jobs would have bought one. He would have looked great in his black turtlenecks.
