Apple hasn’t even announced the iPad Air 6 yet, but that hasn’t stopped one accessory maker from releasing cases for the rumored model, as ESR has done just that.
Several cases of the company (detected by 9to5Mac) have been listed on Amazon.com and reveal some possible details in the process.
For one, the tablet is described as ‘iPad Air 12.9 2024’, which is further proof that the iPad Air 6 will be larger than its 10.9-inch predecessor. We’ve heard this claim several times, although some sources say a 10.9-inch model is also coming.
The fact that ESR currently only lists cases for a 12.9-inch iPad Air 6 could mean we won’t see a 10.9-inch version, but it could also just be that it hasn’t included them yet.
Design-wise, the tablet shown on the cases looks a lot like the iPad Air (2022), with a selfie camera on the top edge. This is notable as some leaks suggested that the iPad Air 6 would have its selfie camera on one of the long edges, so it works best in landscape orientation.
This detail may be wrong in the images, but the images also show an Apple Pencil attached to the long edge that would supposedly house this camera, and we’re not sure there’s room for both a camera and an Apple Pencil. Pencil charger there.
These are two details that could be wrong. Either that or maybe the front camera won’t move after all.
It could be released very soon
For now, we’re not sure and as such we would take these images with a pinch of salt, but it’s worth noting that case makers, especially major brands like ESR, sometimes have advanced information. So the layout shown here could be exact, or they could just be placeholder images.
In any case, the fact that these accessories have already been listed suggests that the iPad Air 6 could launch soon and leaks suggest that this new iPad could land in early May, alongside the iPad Pro ( 2024).
We also heard from leaker Mark Gurman (writing for Bloomberg) that stocks of the current iPad Air are dwindling in some stores, further suggesting that a new model is coming soon. So our camera questions should be answered soon.
