Programmers looking for a laptop to code on are in luck, as Amazon has slashed the price of the MacBook Pro M3 Pro (yes, it really has the word “Pro” twice).
The MacBook Pro has long been the king of Apple laptops, but the 2021 revision brought with it a new design that brought back extra ports, brought back MagSafe charging, and introduced the stunning Liquid Retina XDR display.
We reviewed the 16-inch M1 Pro model in 2022 and gave it five stars, highlighting how powerful it is and praising it for almost everything except the price.
Now, two years and two generations of chips later, Amazon is offering the laptop we called “a programming powerhouse” for $300 off.
The 512GB version, with the M3 Pro chip, is now $1,699, bringing it closer than ever to MacBook Air territory.

I mentioned the M1 Pro version because in many ways nothing has changed with the M3 Pro version.
You’ll still get a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with incredible contrast and USB-C ports on both sides and HDMI 2.0, plus the return of MagSafe.
The big change here is the M3 Pro chip, which offers improved performance over the M1 Pro (and M2 Pro), which you’ll surely notice in basic and more demanding tasks.
The MacBook Air is available with the base M3 chip, but sacrifices ports for a smaller, more portable design.

While the M1 and M2 MacBook Pros started with 16GB of RAM, Apple is offering 18GB of RAM as standard on the M3 Pro models. They also come with 512GB of SSD storage.
The M3 Pro chip has an 11-core CPU and a 14-core GPU in this configuration, but the display is as much a star as the chip.
Despite being unchanged since late 2021, the Liquid Retina XDR display is one of the best I’ve used on a laptop, offering 1,600 nits of peak brightness and exceptional color accuracy and contrast.
The notch at the top of the display sparked controversy at launch, but it houses a 1080p webcam that’s far better than what was offered on MacBook Pro models before 2021.
