On average, a corporate employee in an Indian city spends eight to nine hours at work and an additional two hours shuttling between home and the office. And, with increasing air pollution, it has a high impact on physical fitness and mental well-being.
Yoga, the ancient Indian practice that combines meditation and physical exercise, can help reduce anxiety and recover faster from stress. It is also known to significantly reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by improving memory and cognitive ability as people age.
As we mark International Yoga Day (June 21), we have tips from expert Samiksha Shetty on how to make good use of your Apple Watch to practice yoga and meditate for mental well-being.
What is the best time to practice yoga, early morning or afternoon?
“The best time to practice yoga depends on personal preferences, lifestyle, and schedule. Morning yoga can help set a positive tone for the day and can help reactivate our system. It is a great way to help wake up our mind and our body and prepare ourselves for the day,” said Samiksha Shetty.
“While evening yoga, on the other hand, can help you relax and de-stress after a busy day. It helps us get into relaxation mode, which in turn promotes better sleep,” Shetty added.
“Personally, I like to practice in the morning as it helps me feel energized throughout the day. There are some days when I practice right before going to bed (a yin practice), which helps me open my body and relax it.” to be able to go.” to bed and sleep soundly. So it depends on what your goal is. Do you need yoga to give you energy or do you need yoga to calm down and relax?” Shetty said.
Apple Watch’s native apps for yoga and mental well-being
Apple Watch comes with a dedicated yoga tracking feature in the Workouts app. Additionally, users can record their mental state in the Mindfulness app. Even experts swear by the usefulness of these two applications.
“I use the Mindfulness app. This feature helps me check in with myself regularly. This app not only helps me calm my mind using my breathing, but it also has a ‘Reflect’ feature that makes me reflect on my thoughts and some creative ideas, ideas by asking myself a question to reflect on,” Shetty said.
