Streaming service Apple TV+ announced it has renewed the sci-fi drama “For All Mankind” for a fifth season, in addition to ordering a spin-off series called “Star City.”
“For All Mankind,” created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore, and produced by Sony Pictures Television, explores an alternate reality in which the Soviet Union landed on the moon before the United States, leading to an escalation of the war. race in space. Within the series’ timeline, humanity established bases on the Moon in the 1980s and landed on Mars in the 1990s. The fourth season dealt with the political struggle between Mars and Earth in 2003 and moved forward to a fifth season set in an alternative 2012.
“Star City,” which will be directed by Nedivi and Wolpert, explores how the Soviets in an alternate reality were able to beat the United States in the race to the moon.
“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with each season of ‘For All Mankind,'” said executive producers Wolpert and Nedivi. “The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow, where Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue building the alternate history universe of ‘For All Mankind’ with our partners at Apple and Sony.”
