Siemens and BILT, creators of 3D Intelligent Instructions, have partnered to transform instruction manuals into immersive spatial models that can run on Apple Vision Pro. These models will act as step-by-step guides for training electricians, a necessary tool to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals.
Siemens has begun offering mobile guided installations for its Smart Infrastructures NEMA Class 14 motor starter, an industrial process motor controller, and a P5 power distribution panel, which are used in commercial construction applications.
The devices offer a realistic digital twin on Apple Vision Pro’s ultra-high-resolution display to visually guide users through assembly instructions, combining real-world and digital elements. Through Apple Vision Pro, users can interact with each element of the product using natural gestures and zoom in or out of parts for better visibility and understanding.
Andreas Matth, CEO of Electrical Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, describes this improvement tool as a transformation of the educational experience. He said: “The ability to choose a digital representation of electrical equipment and work with it in the physical space in front of you (provides) a safer, lower cost and more innovative way of learning.”
To further expand this initiative, BILT will become the latest addition to the Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem and marketplace, a robust platform and ecosystem dedicated to providing solutions to industrial customers around the world. Being part of Siemens Xcelerator means the availability of BILT as a turnkey solution to accelerate digital transformation and learning at scale.
Peter Koerte, Chief Technology Officer at Siemens, said: “Closing the skills gap and training the next generation of electricians is what we also aim to do at Siemens. By partnering with innovative companies like BILT, we are revolutionizing the learning experience. We are excited to welcome BILT as the newest partner in our Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem, further expanding our transformative workforce offering.”
Siemens plans to introduce more products for BILT on Apple Vision Pro in the future, complementing its extensive mobile instruction library. This will include its portfolio of smart home energy management products, InHab, and power distribution boards designed for electric vehicle charging applications.
Nate Henderson, president and CEO of BILT, commented: “(Siemens) are making it possible for apprentices and new electricians to improve their skills faster, install with confidence and follow safety guidelines more easily. BILT for Apple Vision Pro allows them to “provide tactical and intuitive training that adapts to the needs of a new generation of students.”
Visitors to the Hannover Messe, Germany’s largest industrial event, from April 22 to 23, 2024, will be able to experience a demonstration of BILT on Apple Vision Pro at the Siemens booth. The demonstration will specifically illustrate a guided installation of a Siemens NEMA Class 14 motor starter and P5 power distribution panel as part of the Siemens Xcelerator exhibit.
The collaboration between Siemens and BILT marks a significant step forward in transforming traditional instruction manuals into immersive digital experiences for electricians.
By leveraging the capabilities of Apple Vision Pro, users can now access step-by-step guides in a spatial and interactive format, revolutionizing the learning and training process in the field of electrical engineering. As Siemens continues to expand its product offering on the BILT platform, this partnership promises to close the skills gap and train the next generation of electricians with practical and innovative learning solutions.
