Apple Books today unveiled its selection of notable books and audiobooks for 2023. The company also took the opportunity to introduce “Year in Review,” a new in-app feature designed to help readers commemorate the titles, authors, and genres that shaped their literary journeys throughout the year.
With Year in Review, users can access personalized insights into 2023 reading highlights, such as total reading time, longest book or audiobook completed, series achievements, most-read author and genre, and highest-rated book. This information is presented in an easy-to-use, visually appealing format that can be easily shared.
Accessible on iPhone and iPad within the Read Now tab in Top Picks, Year in Review is aimed at users who have completed at least three titles. Adding books or audiobooks to Review is a simple process: users can tap and hold on a book, select “Mark as Completed,” and even edit the completion date. For titles enjoyed outside of the app, users can search for them in Apple Books and mark them as completed to seamlessly integrate them into Year in Review.
Using anonymous reader information, Year in Review categorizes users into six distinct reader types, reflecting their literary preferences. These include The Contemporary for fans of trendy titles, The Completist for those who delve into series, The Seeker for non-fiction enthusiasts, The Wanderer for readers with diverse genre interests, The Deep Diver for those who stick to a single genre, and The Free Spirit for those with eclectic tastes across the literary landscape.
As users finish their year in review, they are given an overview of their reading year, including the total number of books read, minutes spent reading, and a visually appealing grid of completed book covers. At the same time, Apple has unveiled its hand-picked list of the best books and audiobooks of 2023, offering an additional avenue of exploration for avid Apple Books users.
These are the most read books of 2023 as revealed by Apple.

Since I am very interested in technology, I make an effort to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablets, but also artificial intelligence and self-driving cars, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like to watch videos, read, listen to music or experiment with different recipes. Filmmaking is another aspect that interests me a lot and I will probably make a film at some point in the future.
