In recent years, Apple has focused on using green or sustainable products to save the environment. As part of its accessories lineup, Apple last year launched its new range of FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch Bands to much fanfare, as these accessories served as an eco-friendly alternative to leather or silicone cases.
However, many buyers were quick to complain that the material of these FineWoven cases was prone to attracting dirt and scratches and had many durability issues. FineWoven also simply felt less premium when held in hand and was more prone to accidental damage.
Apple may stop production of FineWoven accessories: Details
According to X insider Kosutami, Apple plans to stop production of FineWoven covers. He also mentioned that Apple will switch to another type of material due to durability issues, which again will be different than leather.
Previously, Kosutami had revealed Apple’s plans to introduce new Apple Watch bands and iPhone cases, which will be made of woven fabric more than a month before their launch. He had also shared the official images of these accessories before anyone else. So his reveal carries some extra weight, even though Apple hasn’t said anything about FineWoven cases.
Last September, Apple replaced its leather accessories with FineWoven watch cases and bands, claiming they were more environmentally friendly. The Cupertino-based tech giant described these accessories as luxurious, made from 68% post-consumer recycled polyester.
Apple recently skipped new color options for FineWoven accessories, and from the looks of it, it might now stop production of these watch cases and bands entirely. However, it may take some time before the existing stock is completely depleted.
