This time we are comparing one of the best camera smartphones out there, with one of the most popular smartphones in the world. We will compare the Vivo X100 Pro with the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. On top of that, they have completely different designs and even specifications. Comparing them will be quite interesting. Vivo X100 Pro (Vivo)
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max (Apple)
Vivo X100 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Design
If you look at them side by side, you will see many differences. The corners of the iPhone 15 Pro Max are considerably rounder, while the phone also has flat sides all around. The Vivo X100 Pro has proportionally curved front and rear sides, and a considerably thinner frame on the sides than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Yes, the phone has a curved screen compared to the flat screen of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The Vivo X100 Pro also includes a camera cut-out on its display. Apple’s flagship has a pill-shaped cutout. Both smartphones have very thin bezels around their displays. If we flip them over, you’ll see considerably different backplates. The Vivo X100 Pro has a circular camera island, which is centered on the back. There are three cameras in there and it sticks out quite a bit. The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s camera island is in the top left corner and is considerably smaller. It also sticks out less.
The Vivo X100 Pro has all its physical buttons on the right side. Those of the iPhone 15 Pro Max are spaced out. Its power/lock button is on the right side, while the volume up/down buttons and action buttons are on the left side. The Vivo X100 Pro has a slightly larger screen and is taller, narrower, and thicker than the iPhone 15 Pro Max… although not by much. Its global variant weighs 4 grams more, while the vegan leather model, which is only available in China, has the same weight as the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Both phones offer IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Both phones are also quite slippery, at least as far as the global models go. Using a case can be a good idea.
Vivo X100 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Display
The Vivo has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The maximum brightness of this panel is 3,000 nits, in theory. The aspect ratio of the display is 20:9 and the screen-to-body ratio offered by the Vivo X100 Pro is around 90%.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a 6.7-inch 2796 x 1290 LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. This display is flat and has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. HDR10 content is supported here, just like Dolby Vision. The maximum brightness that this screen can reach is 2000 nits. The display aspect ratio offered by the panel is 19.5:9, while the screen-to-body ratio is around 89%. Ceramic Shield Glass protects this screen.
Both panels are really good. Not only are they immensely sharp, but they also have good viewing angles. Both screens are quite vivid and have deep blacks, not to mention the touch response is good too. They also get bright enough when needed, although the Vivo X100 Pro has a slight edge in that regard. We don’t yet know what screen protection is applied on top of the Vivo display, but it’s been doing a good job so far.
Vivo X100 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Performance
Vivo’s flagship is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC. That 4nm processor comes paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by the Apple A17 Pro processor, while the phone packs 8GB of RAM and uses NVMe flash storage. However, note that neither of these two smartphones offers storage expansion.
Performance-wise, they both do a great job. Regular everyday tasks are not a problem at all for either phone. They fly through everything you throw at them. The iPhone 15 Pro Max tends to be a little snappier in some situations, but the difference is barely noticeable. They are great for opening applications, jumping between them, browsing, sending messages, processing images… everything works quite well.
The game is slightly different, but they both do a good job. The iPhone 15 Pro Max had heating issues at first, but Apple fixed it. Now, the Vivo X100 Pro ends up warmer after an hour of intense gaming. We use Genshin Impact for our testing. We noticed some dropped frames, but other than that, performance was not affected. Neither phone got too hot to hold or anything like that.
Vivo X100 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Battery
The Vivo X100 Pro packs a 5,400 mAh battery, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a 4,441 mAh unit. Apple phones generally don’t need batteries as large to offer similar battery life, mainly due to different software, so keep that in mind. Both phones can cross the 7-hour screen-on time mark during use, and we’ve even been able to surpass the 8-hour mark on occasion.
There are a few things to keep in mind here. If you do graphics-intensive tasks on them, those numbers will go down. During those days we didn’t play anything. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has noticeably better standby time compared to the Vivo X100 Pro. Your mileage may vary, of course. We used both phones primarily on Wi-Fi during our testing days, though not exclusively, of course. Your usage will be different, from your apps and habits to signal strength.
When it comes to charging, the Vivo X100 Pro humbles the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The device supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and also reverse wired charging. The iPhone 15 Pro Max supports 20W wired, 15W wireless (MagSafe and Qi2), 7.5W wireless (Qi), and 4.5W reverse wired charging. The Vivo X100 Pro also includes an adapter of 100W in the box, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max ships without one.
Vivo X100 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: cameras
The Vivo The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, includes a 48-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit (120-degree for), and a 12-megapixel periscopic telephoto camera (5x optical zoom).
Taking this into account, both smartphones do a great job when it comes to photography. Both lean toward warmer colors in images. Both also do a great job with daylight shots, although we preferred the Vivo X100 Pro’s portrait photography, and it performed better on more demanding HDR shots as well. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was more reliable overall. We noticed a bit more detail in the Vivo X100 Pro’s ultra-wide photos.
In low-light conditions, both do a great job. However, the Vivo X100 Pro controls light sources much better and also flashes. Other than that, they both do a great job. The Vivo X100 Pro tends to brighten low-light scenes more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Video recording is better on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is not surprising.
Audio
Both phones include stereo speakers. The speakers of both smartphones are loud enough and are on the same playing field in that regard. The sound they emit is pleasant and you will not notice any distortion. Well, a little at the highest volume, but hardly noticeable.
Neither phone has an audio jack. However, they do have Type-C ports that you can connect your wired headphones to. If you prefer to go wireless, the Vivo X100 Pro supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with support for Bluetooth 5.3.
