If you’re considering purchasing a MacBook Air, you may be wondering when new models will be released so you can time your purchase accordingly. Below we outline when the next 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to launch.
Keep in mind that rumors are not always accurate and Apple’s plans could change. This article was last reviewed in April 2024.
MacBook Air: summary
- When were the current models released? March 2024
- When are the next models expected? Early 2025, probably March or April
MacBook Air: What you need to know
Apple last updated the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip in March 2024. Other new features include support for Wi-Fi 6E with a compatible router, native support for up to two external displays when the lid is closed, a fingerprint-reducing anodizing seal on the Midnight finish, and microphone improvements.
The next-generation 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models with the M4 chip will launch “around spring 2025,” according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, so a launch in March or April of next year seems more likely. With the M4 chip, the upcoming MacBook Airs are expected to offer modestly faster CPU performance than current models, and the chip could also have a faster and more efficient neural engine for artificial intelligence tasks.
It was once rumored that the MacBook Air could be the first Mac to have an OLED display, but it’s not entirely clear if that’s still Apple’s plan. No other major updates or design changes have been rumored for the MacBook Air next year.
