I loved my Apple Airpods. I used them every day to listen to music, to watch TikTok at night, to entertain myself during the hour-long commute to work. I rarely left them aside.
That is, until recently I lost them in the most ridiculous way. I actually cried when I realized it, I couldn’t help it. My partner said he would buy me a new pair, but I told him not to. I still have hope that one day I will be able to find them.
I told some friends about how I lost my beloved headphones and they quickly encouraged me to buy a new pair during Amazon Prime Day, which runs from 16th to 17th July. These second-generation headphones have been reduced from £122 to a whopping £95. And I’m so tempted…

This is the story of how I lost my originals. One night last week, my Airpods were low on battery, but I didn’t think much of it. I left them on my nightstand to go to sleep. The next morning I wasn’t feeling so well and let my two kids (ages 3 and 1) watch TV in our bed while I lay very still with my eyes closed, drifting in and out of sleep.
When I woke up and later tried to find my Airpods, they were gone. I looked under the nightstand, under the bed, in the drawers, in the crack between the bed and the mattress, but found nothing. This was unusual, so I pulled out my phone and tried the “Find Me” feature. Usually, I would click the button on my phone and my Airpods would make a sound and I would find them moments later.
But I tried clicking on “Find Me” and heard nothing. Maybe they had run out of battery? At first I wasn’t worried, until I suddenly realized something and had a strong feeling of panic.
My 1 1/2 year old son loved my Airpods. He enjoyed opening and closing the case and looking at them. Whenever he picked them up and I asked him to give them back, he would smile mischievously and run away.
He also likes to flush things down the toilet.
I’m trying my best not to jump to conclusions, but I feel like I’ve looked everywhere and there’s still no sign of my Airpods. Are they running through the sewers of Birmingham as I type? Or are they hidden in a toy truck in his bedroom, under the bed, that I won’t find again for another six months?
If I have any happy news in the future, I’ll let you know. In the meantime, I’m window shopping for new headphones today as there’s a great deal on Amazon. While the second-generation Apple Airpods have caught my eye, I’m also considering buying the same pair as my partner. He uses the Soundcore by Anker P20i true wireless earphones from Amazon which cost £25.99 and loves them. I wrote a review back in February, which you can see here.
I also like the look of these Sony WH-CH520 Bluetooth wireless headphones, which have dropped in price from £38 to £35 on sale. And these fabulous-looking wireless headphones, also from Amazon, have dropped in price from £99.99 to just £24.99 – a whopping 75% off.
I had a look at another site and saw that you can also get these fancy Samsung Galaxy earphones from Argos for £99. But I hope to find my AirPods soon. Does anyone know where small children tend to hide things?
