The proposal, headed by the assemblyman Dr. Joaquin Arambulaseeks to allow undocumented immigrants to have access to the loan program “California Dream for All”which would facilitate the purchase of their first home if they meet the established requirements.

This bill does not create a new program nor does it offer additional benefits; it simply opens the door for these people, many of whom have lived and worked in California for decades, can apply for a mortgage loan under the same conditions as other residents.
Dr. Arambula has defended this initiative as a step towards equity and social justice. He argued that it is fair to offer the undocumented immigrants the same opportunities as any other eligible resident.
“AB 1840 is about equity”Arámbula said, stressing that many of these immigrants have already proven to be responsible citizens by fulfilling their tax obligations.
