The BOC on August 21 published the process for obtaining certificates for access to the new specialty of Urgencies and Emergencies
The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) on August 21 the announcement of the opening of the procedure for requesting certificates for extraordinary access to the title of Specialist in Emergency Medicine.
This publication marks the beginning of the process of obtaining this new specialty in the archipelago, regulated by Royal Decree 610/2024, of July 2 (BOE No. 160, of July 3). Thus, the accreditation process for obtaining the title by extraordinary means according to the aforementioned regulations is launched.
More than 300 medical professionals who provide services in the emergency departments of the public hospitals of the SCS and the medical staff of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as medical professionals from the emergency services of the private and subsidized hospitals of the islands, will be able to obtain this specialty through extraordinary means.
It is expected that the first MIRs in this new specialty will be able to be trained in the next call for Specialized Health Training. In this way, homogeneity in the training of professionals in these important emergency and urgent services is guaranteed.
Procedure and requirements
Interested persons may access the form and instructions on how to complete and submit the application at this web.
The automation of this process by the SCS will speed up the processing of certificates. To do so, interested parties must take into account the deadlines established in point 5.b) of the first transitional provision of the aforementioned Royal Decree, and have a valid electronic certificate. The certificate and, where appropriate, the request for additional information will be sent electronically.
To obtain the specialty, it is necessary to prove possession of a medical specialty degree in Health Sciences or qualification to practice General or Family Medicine and a minimum of four years of full-time service within the previous seven years or equivalent part-time time in the ten years prior to the publication of the Royal Decree in the BOE.
