On May 5, 2023, the World Health Organization assured that the health emergency due to Covid-19 had ended. A year later, the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg spoke about the attempted censorship that the social network attempted to impose on this issue.

The document was released by the United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, headed by Republican Jim Jordan, in which it is revealed that Joe Biden had pressured the social network’s employees to eliminate or limit certain content that was visible in 2021.
“In 2021, senior officials in the Biden administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured teams for months to censor certain Covid-19 content, including humor and satire, and expressed our great frustration with our teams when we disagreed,” the document reads.

In addition to this, the text describes that, despite the pressures exerted by the United States Government, Meta workers, led by Zuckerberg, refused these requests.
“Ultimately, it was our decision whether or not to remove the content, and we own our decisions, including the Covid-19-related changes we made to our app in the wake of this pressure.”

But this was not the only issue that Biden wanted to control on social media, as the committee revealed that there were also attempts to influence the moderation of several companies operating in the United States: “I think the pressure from the Government was wrong, and I regret that we were not more frank,” said Zuckerberg.
The document also refers to the famous Story about the laptop of Hunter Biden, the president’s sonwhere files with explicit content and revealing documents were allegedly found. This content was reduced in visibility and flagged as misinformation by mistake on Facebook’s platform.
