Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Goalrevealed in a letter to the United States Congress that the administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris pressed Facebook to censor certain content, including topics related to the Covid-19.
In the letter, addressed to President Jim Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee, House of Representativeswrote that he “regrets” having worked with the administration Biden-Harriswho “repeatedly put pressure” on the Meta teams “for months” to censor posts about Covid, including satire and humor.
“I think the government’s pressure was wrong and I regret that we were not more open about it,” he said.
Zuckerberg clarified that the decision on whether or not to take down the content was Meta’s. “We are responsible for our decisions, including Covid-19-related changes we made after pressure.”
Zuckerberg admitted that the platform had been guilty of censorship, including the famous story about the laptop Hunter Bidenthe president’s son, which was reduced in visibility and flagged as disinformation in error. “It has since become clear that the information was not Russian disinformation and, in retrospect, we should not have flagged it as disinformation.” Meta’s policies have now changed, and information is no longer discarded pending review of its veracity.
He also stressed his intention to remain neutral in future elections, after some sectors accused him of influencing the 2020 elections. “I know some people believe my work benefited one party over another,” he said, referring to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to support election infrastructure and ensure people had the resources to vote. “My goal is to remain neutral and not play any role on one side or the other, or even appear to be playing a role. I don’t plan to make similar contributions this cycle.”
Mark Zuckerberg just admitted three things:
1. Biden-Harris Admin “pressured” Facebook to censor Americans.
2. Facebook censored Americans.
3. Facebook throttled the Hunter Biden laptop story.
