Joseph Gerdvil, 41, delivered the blow as he lay bleeding out after Orange County sheriff’s deputies shot him multiple times in the torso outside San Juan Mobile Estates on July 9.
The disturbing interaction came moments after officers discovered the headless bodies of her parents, Ronald Gerdvil, 77, and Antoinette Gerdvil, 79, along with their mutilated dog inside their mobile home.

The chilling footage shows police officers stopping Gerdvil in the middle of a road as he walked towards them, mumbling incoherently while holding an unidentified object.
An officer shouted at him several times to get on the ground, but Gerdvil did not listen. The first three bullets had little effect on Gerdvil, who remained upright. The fourth shot did knock him down: he fell to the ground with blood pouring from his abdomen.
The officers then yelled at Gerdvil to roll onto his stomach. He eventually complied. Moments later, Orange County sheriff’s deputies rushed to help.
Joseph Gerdvil is accused of decapitating his parents, Ronald Gerdvil, 77, and Antoinette Gerdvil, 79, inside their mobile home on July 9.
Gerdvil was intercepted by officers after he allegedly attacked a maintenance worker following his parents’ murders, and threw a heavy shovel at officers moments before the body camera footage began, police said. The shovel can be seen lying on the ground nearby.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said he was taken to the hospital and stabilized. He has been charged with murder in the deaths of his parents.
