The Catholic University of San Pablo (UCSP) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the Municipal Hospital of Arequipawhich will help future students and teachers of the university in their teaching and research. San Pablo School of Human Medicine and put into practice the humanistic and ethical training that will be taught in this new UCSP program.
The dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of San Pablo, Dr. Pedro Emilio Alcázar Zuzunaga, expressed his satisfaction at signing this cooperation agreement.
“We are united with the Municipal Hospital by the desire to serve our fellow human beings through what we know how to do: administer health. You are in the healthcare field and we are committed to preparing future doctors with a humanistic approach,” he said.
He also said that they are putting all their effort into having the best teachers, so that the quality of training of future doctors at San Pablo is optimal.
The benefits of the agreement
This agreement will be valid for three years and will allow for the development of practical and pre-professional classes for students. It includes the implementation of joint research studies; training programs and plans, as well as access to specific equipment and materials.
In addition, it will promote the exchange of information and publications; participation and development in seminars, conferences, fairs or symposia; short and long-term visits; promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate studies, among other activities.
An appropriate space
The Municipal Hospital is an important space that will help in the training of medical students, since it treats around 70,000 patients and performs 2,000 treatments and procedures a day. In addition, it offers 22 medical specialties.
The executive director of the Municipal Hospital, Dr. Gustavo Rondón Fudinaga, described this agreement as important because it is signed with “a university that belongs to Arequipa and that has achieved important goals.”
“We come with our hands outstretched. Please keep us in mind for all the steps you are taking in your professional career,” he said.
He said that the Municipal Hospital will be the appropriate space for future health professionals to carry out research, carry out their practices and demonstrate the ethical and service-oriented approach that San Pablo aims to provide.
UCSP Medicine
The admission process for the professional career of Medicine is currently underway and classes will begin in March 2025. The objective is to train doctors who are agents of change in health and have an ethical and service-oriented outlook.
To this end, they will have outstanding teachers and mentors from the country and abroad to provide personalized education. In addition, San Pablo has adequate infrastructure for teaching and will soon open a simulation center with medium and high fidelity equipment, which will allow students to acquire medical skills and abilities.
Along with doctors Pedro Emilio Alcázar and Gustavo Rondón, Mgtr. Héctor Cruz Mercado, general secretary of the UCSP, who signed this document on behalf of the university, Mgtr. César Salas, director of the Department of Health Sciences and Mgtr. Óscar Felipe Carnero, director of the School of Human Medicine at San Pablo.
The Arequipa Municipal Hospital was represented by Lic. José Luis Montalván Cueto, administrator of the hospital; and Dr. José David Gonzales, legal advisor of the institution.
