New format and details of the 2024/25 Champions League draw
The Champions is about to undergo significant change with the introduction of a new format for the 2024/25 season.
Instead of the traditional 32 teams, there will now be 36 clubs participating, eliminating the Group Stage. Each team will play eight matches in the First Round, divided into four at home and four away.
The top eight teams will advance directly to the Round of 16, while the clubs finishing in positions 9 to 24 will compete in a Play-Off for a place in the Round of 16. The others will be eliminated.

For the First Round Drawpots 1 to 4 will be used, each containing nine teams. The distribution in the pots will be based on the UEFA club coefficient.
The new season of the Champions League will begin on September 17, 2024 with Matchday 1 and conclude with the First Round on January 29, 2025. The Grand Final is scheduled for May 31, 2025.
