NFL Rookie Year Impact Rankings for Non-Round 1 Draft Picks – ESPN+
5. Cooper DeJean, CB/S, Philadelphia Eagles (No. 40). This might seem a bit low for DeJean, given that he viewed him as a first-round talent.
But the Eagles also have a hypothetical top-three cornerback trio in Quinyon Mitchell, James Bradberry, and Darius Slay, which of course would affect his role if he plays there exclusively. That being said, DeJean could step into the cornerback role right away and also contribute to safety. His skill set is too good and versatile for him to sit for long. His seven interceptions over the past two seasons point to early production in the pros.
Eagles rookies Mitchell, and DeJean have a chance to start – ESPN
The nickel position also appears to be open to competition. Like Mitchell, DeJean did not allow any touchdowns in coverage in 2023. He held opposing quarterbacks to a 15.1 QBR when they threw his way last season, third-best among the Big Ten. DeJean also has a penchant for big plays with three career interceptions returned for touchdowns. He lined up primarily at the outside left corner last season, and 75% of his coverage snaps came from there.
But he has experience in nickel and safety. “I have no preference. “I’m a football player,” DeJean said. “If you put me on the field, I’ll go play football, whether it’s inside, outside, at safety, wherever I am.” The secondary will almost certainly have a new starter with the signing of safety CJ Gardner-Johnson this offseason. There’s a chance three-fifths of it could be new depending on how quickly Mitchell and DeJean can catch up.
Michael Clay discusses return capabilities of Eagles draft picks – Keynote USASP
“Cooper, he’s a great athlete,” Clay said. “You guys have seen his basketball highlight reel come up. This guy is a very good soccer player. It’s hard to find good soccer players in general. He is a good runner. He can track the ball as a punt returner. You saw that he can take it to the end.” DeJean was credited with one return touchdown and had another returned for an extremely questionable call. This crazy return was called back against Minnesota because the refs ruled it called for a fair catch.
Eagles Film Review: Fans will have to be patient with Jalyx Hunt – BGN
Well, I tried to find all the Jalyx Hunt movies I could. I still have no idea what to make of this choice. I love him and hate him at the same time. He feels like a huge risk in terms of upside potential due to his traits when there were better players available, but you can’t help but be fascinated by the upside potential. Hunt is one of the most fascinating athletes I have ever seen. He moves differently than other players. He is a rare combination of length, speed, and quickness. But sometimes it doesn’t look like an EDGE! He looks like he’s still athletic enough to play safety at times, and seeing him drop into coverage is cool. I don’t want to sound too pessimistic, but I think he’s a long way from contributing as a pass rusher. The traits are there, but he needs a lot of work. I don’t think he’ll contribute as a pass rusher for at least a year, and at 23 years old, some of his games may just not develop much. But the traits and athleticism are there. The potential is obvious. I would have loved this pick in the fourth round, but the third seems a bit risky to me.
Preseason All-NFC East Team: Offensive Edition – PhillyVoice Offensive Tackle: Jordan Mailata, Eagles, Lane Johnson, Eagles. Andrew Thomas is a very good left tackle, but Mailata had a stellar season in 2023, while Thomas missed seven games and still allowed more sacks, according to PFF. Johnson remains the best right tackle in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys are 1-point underdogs against Cleveland Browns in Week 1 – Blogging The Boys
The 2024 Dallas Cowboys season will begin on the road and it will be a challenging game for the good guys. Their opponent will be the Cleveland Browns, a team that made the playoffs last year and has a roster that could give the Cowboys a run for their money. The Cowboys are amid an offseason in which a significant amount of starting talent and role players leave the team in free agency.
Dallas did very little in free agency to replace those players, instead relying on draft picks and young players already on the roster to take over. It’s a risky strategy, but the Cowboys have been committed so far. The Browns have a couple of players we should take note of as we look ahead to the game. One is Myles Garrett, who will likely spend a lot of time trying out the Cowboys’ new left tackle, rookie recruit Tyler Guyton. Assuming Guyton wins the role to start the season, he will have his hands full trying to protect Dak Prescott from Garrett.
After Jared Goff’s big deal, who is the next NFL QB to receive a big payday? – SB Nation
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys. Oh, Dallas.
How do we get here? Last week I wrote about how Dallas is playing a dangerous game by waiting for other deals to come in before doing anything with Dak, and now that Goff was paid $53 million per year, Dallas is on the clock. The problem here is that Dallas also needs to pay WR CeeDee Lamb, LG Tyler Smith, and EDGE Micah Parsons.
Everyone is going to need extensions and they deserve them. Dallas waited too long to get a deal done with Dak, and now they’re going to have to pay him a lot of money or watch him walk away and eat some cap that way. However, Dak has no guaranteed money left in his deal.
If Dallas wanted to trade Dak to avoid having to make the extension, that would be in play here, but I think it’s more of a last-resort move. From Dak’s standpoint, I think he’ll get a big new deal, whether it’s from Dallas or someone else. The second part depends on the Cowboys. My prediction: Dak gets a huge deal, but it’s after the season in free agency, and it’s not from the Cowboys.

The 5 O’Clock Club: What can we expect from Washington’s defense in 2024 after the “Legion of Failure” of 2023? – Pig shelter
While the Commanders had one of the worst pass defenses in the league in 2023, and while the team was busy giving up 25.5 points per game en route to a 4-13 record, Dan Quinn was busy in Dallas.
While their defenses had some vulnerabilities, they were impressive where it mattered, not only managing to finish in the top 7 in points per game each season but improving on that number in each subsequent year. How much of this magic can head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt bring to Washington’s partially rebuilt defense in 2024?
