Apple fans, get ready: If the iPhone 15 left you a little indifferent, we have news for you. In less than two months, in September, Apple is expected to unveil its next flagship series: the iPhone 16 (or perhaps with a more interesting name?). So, what do we know about Apple’s new baby? Let’s dig into the rumors and leaks:
Bigger screens and new camera designThis year, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are expected to feature larger displays, measuring 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches respectively. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays respectively. These new display sizes will be the largest ever seen on an iPhone.

Vertical camera layoutBase iPhone 16 models will feature a vertical camera arrangement with a raised, pill-shaped area, rather than the diagonal camera setup seen on the iPhone 15. The new camera bump features two separate camera rings for the Wide and Ultra Wide lenses. The vertical camera arrangement is expected to enable spatial video recording, currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Battery changesA rumor suggests that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have larger batteries than their predecessors, but the iPhone 16 Plus could have a reduced capacity. The iPhone 16 is expected to have a 6% increase over the iPhone 15, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will see a 5% increase. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Plus is anticipated to have a 9% reduction in capacity. Alternatively, Apple could use stacked battery technology to increase energy density and extend lifespan across all models.

New capture buttonThe entire iPhone 16 series will feature a new “capture button” dedicated to initiating photo or video capture. The button will allow you to zoom in and out by sliding it left and right, focus on an object with a gentle press, and start recording with a firmer press. The capture button will be located on the bottom right side of the iPhone 16, replacing the mmWave antenna on US models, with the antenna moving to the left side of the device, below the volume and action buttons.
Lens UpdateiPhone 16 Pro models are expected to include an upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera lens, which captures more light and results in better photos when shooting at 0.5x magnification, especially in low-light conditions. Additionally, Apple is exploring new optical coating technology for the cameras to improve photo quality by reducing flare and ghosting.
Support for faster Wi-FiAll Pro models launched this year are expected to support Wi-Fi 7, allowing for faster browsing speeds, lower latency, and more stable connectivity. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will support Wi-Fi 6E.
