Apple has revamped the song queue system in the Music app in iOS 18, and the initial reaction to the changes has been overwhelmingly positive.
Notable changes include a new “Add Songs to Queue” button at the bottom of the queue, an option to clear the entire queue in one go, and the ability to change the currently playing song without the queue disappearing. Additionally, the old “Play Last” menu option has been replaced with “Add to Queue.” While listening to a playlist, it is now possible to add a song to the queue to play immediately after the current song, whereas previously the song was added to the end of the playlist.
These changes make Apple Music‘s queue system on iPhone more similar to that of Spotify and the Android version of the Apple Music app. It also makes Apple Music’s queue system more similar to the one that worked in iOS 9.
iOS 18 is now available in beta for Apple Developer Program members, with a public beta coming in July. The update should be available to everyone in September, allowing everyone to try out the new queue system.
