Apple Music subscriptions start with the Individual plan, which costs £10.99 per month, or the Family plan for £16.99 per month, for up to six users. There’s also a Student plan for £5.99 per month, or you can subscribe to Apple One for all-in-one access to different Apple subscriptions, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Fitness+, and more.
Apple Music used to have a £4.99 per month option with its Music Voice plan, which allowed access to music only through Siri when connected to Wi-Fi. This plan has been discontinued as of Wednesday 1 November 2023.
Apple Music offers over 100 million songs. All content will play ad-free on all Apple Music plans and can be played on all Apple devices, including Apple homepod and HomePod Mini, Apple TV 4K, and Apple smartwatches. It’s also compatible with Xbox, PS5, Roku models, and Android smartphones.
Amazon Music also offers a variety of streaming plans to suit your listening needs and monthly budget. Unlike Apple Music, it starts with a free plan, meaning you don’t have to shell out money each month – you can listen to the platform’s entire library. The downside, however, is that you can only listen on shuffle, so you can’t skip your favorite song.
Then there’s the basic version, included with Amazon Prime, for £8.99 a month. For a wider catalogue of content, there’s the option of Amazon Music Unlimited for £10.99 a month, or £9.99 if you already have a Prime subscription. A family plan will cost £16.99, the same as Apple Music.
Amazon Music will also play ad-free, and with Amazon Music Unlimited you’ll have access to over 100 million tracks.

Need to know more? Although they sound similar as streaming services, Amazon and Apple Music have several differences that set them apart.
As we mentioned, both platforms boast libraries packed with over 100 million songs. Wow! That’s a huge number. It’s worth mentioning that Apple Music doesn’t include podcasts; they have a separate service, Apple Podcasts, for that. Amazon Music plans do have access to podcasts, but they have a separate streaming service called Audible for audiobooks.
In terms of sound quality, Apple Music offers 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res Audio output. The same output is offered with Amazon Music Unlimited thanks to its HD and Ultra HD feature. Both platforms offer lossless audio streaming for authentic, high-quality sounds, however, Apple Music beats Amazon with its spatial audio support across all plans, which delivers crystal-clear content. Amazon only includes this feature on Amazon Music Unlimited. Both platforms also use Dolby Atmos for three-dimensional, immersive sound.
Thanks to its iCloud Music Library, you can download and play songs from Apple Music and access them across all your devices when you’re signed in with the same Apple ID, something Amazon Music doesn’t offer. You can also get up to six months of Apple Music free when you buy an eligible Apple audio device. Amazon may not offer these perks, but it’s been around longer and gives you the option to listen to music hands-free with Alexa, so it really is a case of weighing the benefits.

Apple Music vs Amazon Music Verdict: Which Music Streaming Service Should You Buy in 2024?
Overall, we don’t see much in it. Both streaming services offer millions of songs (over 100 million to be precise) and have various types of packages available for all music fans.
The platforms are similar in what they offer – from ad-free music listening and discovering new music to providing immersive sound with Dolby Atmos and access to spatial audio. Both also have family plans for the same price of £16.99, which can be used on up to six devices.
However, Amazon Music does offer a free basic plan, so for those who are money-conscious and want to save, we suggest starting there. Just be prepared to listen to what it offers, as, remember, it only plays on shuffle. But it doesn’t offer the high-end music quality that Apple Music does.
